Benefit of a Blanket

Blankets are much more than just a piece of cloth to keep us warm. They provide comfort, security, and a sense of familiarity. Humans have been using blankets for centuries to create a cozy and comfortable environment, and it’s no surprise that they are still widely used today. In this blog post, we’ll explore the benefits that blankets bring to people and why they are an essential part of our lives.

  1. Warmth

The most obvious benefit of blankets is warmth. During cold weather, blankets can be the difference between feeling cozy and comfortable or feeling cold and miserable. They help to trap your body heat and create a warm environment that can help you relax and feel more comfortable.

  1. Comfort

Blankets provide a sense of comfort and security, which can help reduce stress and anxiety. Wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket can give you a sense of being hugged, which can be incredibly calming and soothing. Blankets can also create a sense of familiarity and help you feel more at home, even when you’re away from home.

  1. Better Sleep

Blankets are an important part of a good night’s sleep. They can help regulate your body temperature, ensuring that you don’t get too hot or too cold during the night. This can help you sleep more soundly and wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

  1. Decoration

Blankets are also a great way to add some style and personality to your home. With so many different colors, patterns, and materials available, you can find a blanket that matches your decor and reflects your personal style. Whether you prefer a simple, classic look or something bold and colorful, there’s a blanket out there for you.

  1. Versatility

Blankets are incredibly versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes. They can be used as a throw on your couch or bed, as a picnic blanket, or even as a makeshift tent or fort for your kids. They are also great for outdoor activities like camping or hiking, as they provide warmth and comfort in cold and damp conditions.

In conclusion, blankets are an essential part of our lives, providing warmth, comfort, security, and versatility. They are much more than just a piece of cloth to keep us warm; they are a symbol of comfort and familiarity. So the next time you curl up with a cozy blanket, take a moment to appreciate all the benefits it brings to your life.

January/February Update

Whew, time has slipped by and we’ve neglected our blogging…let’s get you updated!

Our Board of Directors have been hard at work planning out our year. We have a lot instore and can’t wait to share it all with you!

In Jan/Feb, Wendy (ED) and Marisa (Board Member) started collecting blankets that will be donated in April for Youth Service Day.

Thank you to one of our amazing volunteers Dawn!!! She works hard at sewing all our scraps of fleece to make dog/cat blankets and even makes this for them to. We are so thankful to her and her husband for all their support of our efforts.

Olivia and Wendy dropped off blankets for Box of Balloons in Fargo. Box of Balloons is a great organization that helps ensure that every child is celebrated during their birthday!

In February ❤️, Warm Blanket Hugs was able to reach 105 (that we know of) and so many more that we don’t know about. We provided blankets and gift card to Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center. We reached people through random acts of kindness with leaving quarters in vending machines and laundry along with leaving gift cards around a local grocery store. We provided blankets for Box of Balloons, Inc.- Fargo, ND. We were able to tell our story to PAY (Philanthropy and Youth Barry Foundation) and the West Fargo High School students. Our board members volunteered with Feed my Starving Children and brought awareness on International Epilepsy Day (February 14th).

This is HUGE for a small nonprofit like us. We are so thankful for our donors and volunteers. Thank you to everyone that has helped in anyway.

Stay tuned for our March update!

Our Story

Olivia, our founder, started having seizures when she was little. During one of her many hospital stays she received a blanket and know the comfort that brought her. Hospital stays and/or procedures aren’t fun, having a comfort item helps a bit.

Olivia has been making handmade blankets for years. In 2019 she saw the need for a nonprofit that provides not only handmade blankets but also store bought, Warm Blanket Hugs was started. We officially became a 501(c)(3) in November 2019 and have provided over 2,000 blankets since then.

We provide blankets to those in need in our local area and encourage those outside our are to donate within their community.

In 2022 we have implemented our Random Acts of Kindness that our board is doing in addition to providing blankets. We are going to be announcing our new scholarship program soon and we have been able to expand our programming to include other community service items. It’s an exciting time and we’ve been very busy behind the scenes.

4 Luv of Dogs Rescue – Donation

Rosalie was adopted through 4 Luv of Dog Rescue and went on a three hour car ride. A volunteer for Warm Blanket Hugs made sure she had a blanket for the long ride to provide her comfort 💙.

Blanket Making Event – Mission Fargo

One year ago we had the opportunity to cross paths with Jason and Kiana from Mission Fargo when they held a blanket making event in which the Cass County Sheriff’s office received the donations.

On Tuesday, we were invited by Jason/Mission Fargo to attend a blanket making event with the Innovators Master Networks Group. The group was very welcoming and it was a good opportunity for the business professionals to hear about our mission but also for us to hear about their business and needs.

The group made a bakers dozen blankets (I relate everything to donuts or tacos) which will be donated to the Cass County Sheriff’s along with the Fire Department. These departments keep them in their vehicles in the event they need them for emergency situations.

Olivia is getting better and better at speaking in front of a crowd. Pageantry and Warm Blanket Hugs have given her great opportunities to build confidence.
There are many adults that wouldn’t get up in front of a group of people – nice job Olivia!
Many hands make for light work

Thank you to Master Networks and Mission Fargo for allowing us the opportunity! We love being able to share what Warm Blanket Hugs is all about.

Hope Lutheran Church – Confirmation Group

Wednesday evening I got to speak to the Hope Lutheran Church South confirmation class about Warm Blanket Hugs. It was a neat experience and I really enjoyed their worship. Stefanie (Director of Confirmation) talked about how even kids in 6th-8th grade can make a difference in the world. Even something small can make a difference. Thank you Stefanie and Hope for allowing me to talk, I greatly appreciate it!
